Periods are a natural part of growing up, but they shouldn’t be a source of stress or embarrassment for girls. That’s why open conversations between mums and daughters are so important.

In collaboration with Women in Sport and their #TimeTogether campaign, we want to encourage families to normalise period talk while promoting an active lifestyle.

Why Talking Matters

For many girls, periods can feel confusing or overwhelming, especially if they don’t have someone they can talk to. By opening up the conversation early, you’re building trust and giving your daughter the confidence to ask questions and feel comfortable with her changing body.

Discussing periods openly also helps to break down the stigma that often surrounds menstruation. When girls understand that periods are normal and nothing to be ashamed of, they’re more likely to feel empowered to continue doing the things they love, like sports.

Women in Sport’s #TimeTogether campaign highlights the importance of spending quality time together through physical activity. Staying active isn’t just good for physical health, it also boosts mental well-being and builds self-esteem.

When mothers and daughters share these moments—whether it’s a run, a game of tennis, or simply a walk in the park—it creates an open space for conversations to flow naturally, including those about periods.

Being active together helps your daughter see that her period doesn’t have to hold her back from participating in sports or other activities.

Physical activity during periods can even help reduce cramps and improve mood, making it an essential part of managing menstrual health.

Creating a Supportive Environment

As mums, you’re not just supporting your daughter through her periods, but also teaching her that she has the power to stay active and engaged in all areas of life.

By talking openly and encouraging physical activity, you’re helping her build a positive relationship with her body, one that’s free of embarrassment or fear.

This month, let's use the #TimeTogether to build strong bonds, break the silence around periods, and encourage our daughters to live confidently and actively, every day of the month.
