It may not have quite the same buzz as Valentines Day, but Menstrual Hygiene Day is a great way to spread awareness of some of the issues girls and women face around the world. In parts of the developing world, there are no safe, private school toilets, so girls often skip school during their period, or drop out of school altogether once they reach puberty. Thestigma that surround periods makes it harderfor women and girls to call for change. Having access to a toilet and running water at school are the simple essentials that allow them to deal with their periods and play a full and active part in their society, no matter thetime of month. But let's face it, we're not exactly free from period stigma in the western world either, asthis new film from WaterAidshows, with a humorous look at how it would be if we could talk about periods in a normal way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKgkKwnmmh0&utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=period_day&utm_content=celeb As some of the reactions show, we have a way to go before normal periods become normal conversation. In the meantime, you may consider signing WaterAid's petition calling for all schools to have decent toilets around the world. Let's #screwthetaboo! #NoShame #MHDay2017
