Periods shouldn’t be a barrier to participation, and Athletics Ireland is making sure of that. Whether someone needs an extra tampon, has been caught off guard, or experiences their first period on the day of the event, these provisions are there to offer essential support.
Anna Grealish, Women in Sport Lead at Athletics Ireland, shared her thoughts on the importance of this initiative:
"This is an easy step all events can take to make being on your period easier and less stressful. I know from my own experience how tricky being on your period can be at a cross-country event. By providing free products at an accessible location, we are hoping to support all women and girls whether you just need a spare or it is your very first period. I am delighted to be working once again with FabLittleBag to make sure we cover everyone’s period needs at events.”
At FabLittleBag, we’re proud to be a part of this positive change. Our ongoing partnership with Athletics Ireland ensures that not only will there be free sanitary products available, but FabLittleBag disposal bags will also be on hand, offering an easy, hygienic, and discreet way for women to manage their periods at these events. As FabLittleBag’s founder, Martha Silcott, explains:
"We are so proud to celebrate our ongoing partnership with Athletics Ireland as they make their upcoming Cross Country Events as well as their Autumn Open Period Supportive Events. This means that women and girls competing, volunteering, working, and spectating at these fantastic events will all be able to manage their periods with ease, confidence, and discretion should they need to. Disposal at such events can typically cause some anxiety, but FabLittleBag will be there to ensure that disposal is easy and clean, encouraging good binning behavior and converting those who flush to bin instead! Small changes, BIG impact! Well done, Athletics Ireland."
As we move towards 2025, we’re excited to see Athletics Ireland continue to lead the way in creating inclusive, supportive environments for all. By ensuring that periods aren’t a barrier to participation, they’re making a powerful statement: women and girls belong in every space, without limitations.
Together with Athletics Ireland, FabLittleBag is proud to make sporting events more accessible, comfortable, and empowering for women everywhere. Let’s keep breaking down barriers—one period supportive event at a time.
